What are Jogging Strollers?

Jogging strollers and infant joggers are very different than traditional strollers. Jogging strollers can typically be recognized by their three wheel design.

This specialty stroller is also called a running stroller. The jogging stroller wheel is much larger than traditional stroller wheel making them easier to use. They don’t typically have problems with small bumps like the smaller wheels on traditional strollers have. Jogging strollers are designed to allow parents to run walk and exercise while pushing their child. This allows parents to maintain their exercise routine and not sacrifice quality family time. A running stroller typically does not have handles for maneuvering the stroller. They incorporate a full bar for steering that makes it easy for the parent to control the stroller while exercising or walking. Their strong light weight design offers just the right amount of resistance to achieve a good workout without being a hindrance. Quality and safety in a running stroller is paramount. Fortunately there are some very good brands of baby jogging strollers on the market today. Baby Jogger, BOB, Bumbleride, InStep, Tike Tech and Schwinn are among the most popular.
While many children enjoy the ride, jogging strollers are not recommended for children under 6 months of age. You should check with your pediatrician before taking a very young child on a running regiment.
Most jogging strollers are typically used only for running or walking in parks and on trails. The unique design that makes them safer and easier for exercise can also make them difficult for use in close places like grocery stores and malls. Many people who use jogging strollers for exercise also have a traditional stroller for use when not exercising.
There are swivel strollers that use the same three wheel design as jogging strollers but they are not recommended for runners. The jogging stroller wheel for an all terrain infant jogger uses a swivel wheel that makes them much easier to maneuver in close quarters. The swivel wheel however also makes them more difficult to control when running. Serious runners and joggers should consider using a running baby stroller where the front stroller wheel is fixed.
