General Jogging Stroller Safety Tips
Manufacturers recommend that you DO NOT use a jogging stroller with a child that is under 6 months of age. They do not have sufficient mussel strength in their neck at this tender age. Many jogging strollers have or their manufacturers offer accessories specifically designed to support your Childs neck and head . • Always make sure your jogging stroller is in proper good working condition. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for safety checks and routine maintenance on your jogging stroller.
• Consider the weather conditions when you are going to use your jogging stroller to exercise. An ideal temperature range when using your jogging stroller is between 55 and 85 degrees. Remember that your child is not running and they will need to be dressed warmer than you in cooler weather. When running on sunny days always protect your child with sun block. Keep the top down will also aid in protecting them from the sun.
• You should be free of outside distractions and be aware of what is happening around you. You should not use items like i-pods when running or jogging with your child. Being in tune with your surroundings could avert an accident when out with your child.
• Always be sure to pack a small snack and drink for your child if you are going to be out for more than 30 minutes. Depending on the age of your child it is also a good idea to have a diaper and some wipes handy.
• Pick your terrain carefully when planning a jog with your child. Pushing a jogging stroller with your child on board up and down hills simply is not a good idea even for those in the best of shape. You will be adding between 30 and 60 pounds to your exertion.
• A wrist band that keeps you tethered to the stroller is another good option to keep you in control of the stroller in the event of an unplanned event.
• Start out slow. This will insure that you get “the feel” for your jogging stroller and how it handles. Starting slow will also allow your child to get use to the new adventure you are sharing with them. They will be more inclined to enjoy future outings as they share an activity that you like and explore the world!
